Blangkon is the headgear of Javanese men, a ready-to-wear headband made of batik.

There is no record in the history of this fashion. There was a legend about Ajisoko and he wore a headband. With his headband, he could defeat Dewata Cengkar, a giant who ruled Java. Ajisoko was later known as the creator of the Javanese calendar.

There are a few theories about blangkon that was influenced by Hindu and Islam culture. According to experts, Moslem who visited Java were from China and Gujarat.

Another theory said that in the past headbands were worn and wrapped manually. But as there was a war crisis, that fabric was hard to get, therefore the officials asked artists to create headgear with more economical fabric and later called blangkon.
