Home to more than three million people, Bogor is the largest city within close proximity to Jakarta. Although no longer the quaint town it once was, Bogor still retains much of its small town charm. Sitting at an elevation of 265 metres (869 feet), Bogor is much cooler (and fresher) than Jakarta, and receives more precipitation than any other municipality in Java.
Bogor is best known for the BOGOR BOTANIC GARDENS, the oldest botanical garden in Southeast Asia. Founded in 1817, Bogor Gardens covers 87 hectares (210 acres), adjoining the gardens of the Presidential Palace. The precinct includes a laboratory, a library, herbaria, and guesthouses. Today, the garden contains 13,983 specimens of trees and plants, belonging to 3373 species.
On Sat, 19 May 2018, we will host an OPEN TRIP TO THE BOGOR BOTANICAL GARDENS in celebration of the 201st anniversary of this landmark park. We'll travel to Bogor by train, passing the sweeping grounds of the University of Indonesia, the country's premiere institute of higher learning, before arriving in Bogor.
The trip is open to LSI students and non-students alike. Whether you are studying Bahasa Indonesia with LSI or not, the trip will provide an ideal opportunity to "mix with locals" and practice your Indonesian language skills!!!
To commemorate the anniversary of the Bogor Botanical Gardens, the INDONESIAN SOCIETY OF BOTANICAL ARTISTS (IDSBA), an organisation of botanical artists and amateur botanists, will present an Exhibition of Botanical Art at the Bogor Gardens from 18 to 20 May.
By a happy coincidence, we will visit the Park on 19th May, so we'll be able to take in the Exhibition during our excursion. Please join us for an exhilarating excursion to Bogor Botanical Gardens and the IDSBA's Exhibition of Botanical Art!
Fee IDR 450.000 is inclusive of:
train tickets, accompanying guides, admissions and fees.
