Bahasa Indonesia Words With Dual Meaning: "Beruang"

Having a large knowledge of vocabulary is really important when learning a new language. That is why throughout this series, we have shared with you 8 different dual-meaning words, including bisa, orang tua,

and apel in order to increase your vocabulary of words in Bahasa Indonesia.

Today, we are sharing with you the dual-meaning word . . . “Beruang.”

Take a look at the following examples:

Binatang kesukaanku adalah beruang kutub karena mereka adalah binatang yang kuat.

My favourite animals are polar bears because they are strong animals.

“Seandainya aku beruang, aku akan membeli mobil itu.”

If only I had money, I would buy that car.

Just like what the examples have shown you, the Bahasa Indonesia word beruang can have the two meanings of “bear” or “to have money” in English.

Although the words have exactly the same spelling, they are pronounced slightly differently and are both used in completely different contexts.

To help you with knowing the pronunciation and the contexts where this word is used, watch this video!

We encourage you to read our other dual-meaning posts where we discussed the words tinggal, lewat, pukul, halaman, and tahu so that you can further your skills in Bahasa Indonesia!
